Born in 1988 in Bad Saulgau, Silke Strahl received her first music lesson at age 9. In 2008, she began study in Elementary Musical Pedagogy at the Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart. From 2010 onwards, she studied classical saxophone with Nikola Lutz. An Erasmus year saw her move to Lucerne where she completed the Bachelor and Master of Music in Interpretation of Contemporary Music with Sascha Armbruster and Beat Hofstetter, both with Honours. She is active with various ensembles and plays world premieres of Swiss and international composers. Silke has been invited to play with various orchestras and ensembles including Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden, Sinfonieorchester Basel, Collegium Novum Zurich, the Hessian Radio Orchestra and the Exorbitanten Kabinett. A further emphasis in her work has been on free improvisation and Silke can be heard improvising with Urban Mäder, Hans-Peter Pfammatter, Linda Vogel and her ensemble Nachhall. She has won the Edwin Fischer Prize and the Soundzz.z.zzz...z competition of the Lucerne Festival.

Silke is active in the Lucerne cultural scene and is part of the team Kulturbrauerei, Forum Neue Musik and is on the advisory board of Other Music Lucerne.
